The objective of these tests is to achieve a Chardonnay wine fermented at a low temperature in new barrels, which maintains all the aromatic and gustatory expressions of the Chardonnay with a delicate and fine touch of oak.
The awards were presented in five different categories.
The company Gelats i Torrons Xixona Antonio Plá Ferrándiz received the Business and Innovation Award and is granted for the intense work carried out in recent years to give prominence to the Hazelnut of Reus with the creation of products such as hazelnut horchata, hazelnut ice cream from Baix Camp, gluten-free cookies with black chocolate and hazelnut from Reus, or three-chocolate hazelnut rocks.
The Communication Award was received by Josep Bages, a journalist from Reus who has worked in various media and who, since 2007, has worked at the Reus Chamber of Commerce, where he has been particularly significant in the areas of hazelnut promotion under the umbrella of the Temps d’Avellana (Hazelnut Time) conferences.
The DOP Avellana de Reus Award in the Scientific section was for Mercè Rovira, Doctor of Biology who works as a researcher at IRTA of the Mas Bové Center where she has participated, for more than three decades, in various works on the hazelnut tree at a state, European and international level.
In the Gastronomy and Tourism section, the DOP Avellana de Reus Award was for the Vermouth Museum Restaurant, which is highlighted for its commitment to the territory, and especially for hazelnuts, creating Mediterranean cuisine where local products are very relevant.
Finally, and at the proposal of the Governing Board of the Regulatory Council of the DOP Avellana de Reus, granted an Honorary Mention to Pere Guinovart, farmer, Territorial Coordinator of the Unió de Pagesos in Camp de Tarragona and president of the DOP Avellana de Reus for three terms. The event ended with a tasting of products made with Avellana de Reus by the friends of the hazelnut and the 3j catering, with the musical accompaniment of Anna Amigó and Martí Hosta.
